If you want a comfortable, washable headphone designed specifically for children to sleep in without bulk, choose CozyPhones Over; if you need a versatile Bluetooth transmitter to stream airline movies to your own wireless earbuds or car stereo, choose iKmai Airplane.
These two devices solve completely different problems for travelers, and picking the wrong one leaves you with either a gadget that won't fit your ears or headphones that have no power source. The CozyPhones Over is a soft, fleece-wrapped headband that sits on top of the head, while the iKmai Airplane is a small, foldable metal and plastic adapter that plugs into an airplane seat jack. One is a wearable accessory for comfort; the other is a connectivity bridge for audio quality. You cannot use them interchangeably, so the decision comes down entirely to whether your priority is physical ease during sleep or technical compatibility with inflight entertainment systems.
• CozyPhones Over: Strengths include a soft fleece headband that acts as a sleep mask and volume-limited speakers for hearing safety; trade-off is its wired-only design and lack of Bluetooth.
• iKmai Airplane: Strengths include a 2-in-1 transmitter/receiver function with Bluetooth 5.3 and a 20-hour battery life; trade-off is its rigid metal construction which makes it unsuitable for side sleeping.
• Who is this for?: Choose CozyPhones for parents looking for best headphones for side sleepers who want their kids to nap comfortably; choose iKmai for adults needing wireless headset for side sleepers only in the sense of using their own earbuds with a reliable connection.
The CozyPhones Over The Ear Headband is engineered with a very specific user in mind: young children who struggle with traditional headphones. Unlike bulky over-the-ear cups that squeeze the head or earbuds that fall out of small ears, this device uses a stretchy polyester headband with thin speakers embedded directly into the fabric. The design prioritizes a "no-bulk" experience, allowing a child to wear them under a car seat headrest or against an airplane window without pressure points. This makes it an ideal solution for travel naps where comfort is the primary concern.
One of the most critical features for any parent buying audio gear for a child is safety, and CozyPhones addresses this with built-in circuitry that limits the volume to 90 dB. This level is widely recommended as safe for young eardrums, preventing the risk of hearing damage from sudden loud noises or high-volume media. The device connects via a standard 3.5 mm jack to a durable 52-inch braided cord that resists kinking and twisting, ensuring it survives the rough handling typical of school and travel environments. The material is washable, which is essential for keeping hygiene up when dealing with food spills and sweat.

However, this product is not for everyone. It is strictly a wired solution with no Bluetooth capability, meaning it requires a direct physical connection to a device like a tablet or phone. It also has no active noise cancellation; it relies solely on the physical placement of the cup-shaped speakers to block some ambient sound. If you are an adult looking for deep isolation or a long-range wireless connection, this will feel too restrictive. It is best suited for parents who want a fun, character-themed accessory that doubles as a sleep mask and keeps volume levels safe for growing ears.
The iKmai Airplane Bluetooth Adapter serves a very different purpose: it is a hardware bridge that turns old analog airplane seats into modern wireless hubs. Airlines often still rely on dual or single 3.5 mm jacks that do not support Bluetooth streaming. This device solves that by plugging directly into the seat jack and transmitting audio wirelessly to your own Bluetooth headphones or AirPods. It functions as both a transmitter for flights and a receiver for home or car stereos, making it a highly portable piece of tech for frequent flyers who refuse to use the provided airline headphones.
Battery life is a standout feature here, offering up to 20 hours of playtime in transmitting mode and 15 hours in receiving mode on a single charge. This ensures you can handle long-haul international flights or multiple short trips without worrying about recharging. The unit supports Bluetooth 5.3, which promises low latency and stable connections, reducing the annoying lag between video and audio that plagued older adapters. It also allows for simultaneous connection to two devices, so you and a travel companion can listen to the same movie on separate pairs of headphones without interference.
Despite its technical prowess, the physical design makes this product unsuitable for sleeping. The enclosure is made of hard metal and plastic, and the foldable jack creates a rigid profile that would dig into your face if you tried to lay your head down. It is a functional tool for staying entertained while awake, but it offers zero comfort for rest. It is perfect for business travelers or families who want to use their high-quality personal earbuds on a plane, but it is not a "sleeping aid" in the way the CozyPhones Over is.
• Best for side sleepers → CozyPhones Over: Its soft fleece headband and low-profile design allow it to be worn flat against a pillow without causing pain.
• Best for wireless connectivity → iKmai Airplane: It provides true Bluetooth freedom, connecting to any pair of wireless earbuds without wires tangling.
• Best for hearing safety → CozyPhones Over: The 90 dB volume limiter is a dedicated safety feature for children, whereas the iKmai passes through full volume.
• Best for battery independence → iKmai Airplane: With a 270 watt-hours lithium battery, it operates independently of your phone's power, unlike the CozyPhones which draw power from the connected device.
• Best for durability against tangles → CozyPhones Over: The 52-inch braided cord is designed to resist kinking, while the iKmai's folding mechanism introduces more potential mechanical failure points.
• Best for shared listening → iKmai Airplane: You can connect two sets of headphones simultaneously, a feature the CozyPhones does not support.
• Best for washability → CozyPhones Over: The entire headband can be washed, whereas the iKmai must be kept dry and handled carefully.
• Best for home/car use → iKmai Airplane: It works as a receiver for your car stereo or home TV, expanding its utility beyond just flights.
I would buy the CozyPhones Over if my goal was to help a child sleep comfortably on a flight. It is the superior choice for anyone prioritizing physical comfort and safety, acting as the true best in ear headphones for side sleepers for the pediatric demographic due to its soft, flexible construction. However, I would choose the iKmai Airplane if I were traveling alone and wanted to use my own premium wireless earbuds to watch movies without being tethered to the seat jack. Ultimately, the CozyPhones Over wins for the specific need of side sleepers because its design is literally built to withstand the pressure of a pillow, whereas the iKmai is a rigid tool for entertainment that offers no such luxury.
Only the CozyPhones Over is designed for side sleeping due to its soft fleece headband and low profile; the iKmai Airplane has a hard metal body that would be uncomfortable to lie on.
No, the iKmai Airplane is universal and fits both single and dual stereo jacks found on most airlines without requiring extra adapters.
It is limited to 90 dB for safety, which is safe for children but may not provide enough volume to fully drown out loud engine noise without raising the volume dangerously.
Yes, once plugged into the airplane seat jack, it transmits wirelessly via Bluetooth 5.3 to your iPhone-compatible headphones or earbuds.
