Cow Keeper

Privacy Policy

Last Updated: June 19, 2026

Overview

Cow Keeper is a livestock management app built for farmers. We take your privacy seriously — and honestly, the privacy story here is about as simple as it gets: your data lives on your device, and we never see it.

This policy explains exactly what information the app collects, where it goes, and who can see it.

Information We Collect

Cow Keeper stores only the information you enter yourself. That includes:

         •       Cattle records — tag numbers, names, breed, type, weight, date of birth, health status, and notes

         •       Treatment logs — dates, treatment types, and notes for each animal

         •       Pasture names and assignments

         •       Purchase and sale prices you record for individual animals

         •       Photos of your cattle (optional)

         •       Your display name (how you appear to other devices on your farm)

         •       Your farm name

That’s it. We do not collect your location, contacts, browsing history, device identifiers, or any other personal information. There are no analytics, no crash-reporting SDKs, and no advertising frameworks in the app.

How Your Data Is Stored

All of your data is stored locally on your iPhone or iPad using Apple’s standard on-device storage (UserDefaults). Nothing is sent to a server. Nothing is stored in the cloud. Cow Keeper does not require an internet connection and does not connect to one.

When you delete the app, all of your data is deleted with it. There is no account to close and no server-side records to request removal of.

Peer-to-Peer Sync

Cow Keeper includes an optional WiFi/Bluetooth sync feature that lets multiple devices on the same farm stay in sync. This uses Apple’s MultipeerConnectivity framework, which creates a direct device-to-device connection — the same technology used for AirDrop.

A few important things to know about how sync works:

         •       Data travels directly between devices on your local network. It does not pass through any server, and it does not leave your local network.

         •       Only devices that share the same Farm Code can connect to each other. Devices on neighboring farms with different codes cannot see your data.

         •       We (the developer) never receive, store, or have access to any data transmitted during sync.

The sync feature is entirely optional. You can turn it off at any time from the Sync settings in the app.

Data You Share With Other Devices

When sync is enabled, your herd data — cattle records, pastures, treatment logs, farm name, and your display name — is shared with other devices that have joined your farm using the same Farm Code.

You control who has your Farm Code. Sharing it with someone gives them access to sync with your farm. You can change your Farm Code at any time to disconnect devices, and farm owners can remove individual devices from the farm management screen.

Photos

You can optionally add photos of individual animals. Photos are stored only on your device. If you have sync enabled, photos are included in the data shared with other devices on your farm.

Photos are never uploaded to any server or shared outside your local farm network.

Children’s Privacy

Cow Keeper is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because all data is stored locally and no accounts are created, there is no mechanism by which we would receive data from any user, regardless of age.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we’ll post the new version with an updated “Last Updated” date. Since the app doesn’t collect contact information, we can’t notify you directly — but the current policy will always be accessible from the App Store listing and within the app.

We don’t anticipate this policy changing often, because the app’s approach to privacy — keep everything local, share nothing with us — is a core design principle, not an afterthought.
