In this area, we currently focus on two health-related issues - mental health and impacts on health services.
The project is an analysis of the mental health of the public by looking at Twitter's tweets. Due to the breakout of the Covid-19, we have seen that there are many discussions on twitter with the hashtags like Covid19, depression and so on. It is very important to see how many percent of people are feeling unsafe or positive about the breakout.
We then wish to analyze, how people are feeling and their corresponding behavior about the coronavirus, so as to generate reports on the perspective of mental health. We plan to categorize the tweets that mentioned coronavirus into some sentimental categories: sadness, depression, isolation, positive, etc. More detailed analysis can be reported like how many mentions of certain keywords and we wish to report the corresponding trend as well.
As the global pandemic of COVID-19 continues, there are many parts of the world where tests for the COVID-19 are not available and hence the currently reported confirmed cases are only a fraction of the actual numbers. In this project, we plan to estimate and visualize the spread of COVID-19 beyond the reported confirmed cases, which will provide the trend of the underlying outbreak of COVID-19. To this end, we are conducting real-time surveys on people with symptoms, but who have yet not been tested. Using this data, we also plan to provide data-driven analysis on the allocation of resources including test kits, health service providers, etc.
