Coventry began as a Saxon village and it was called Coffantree, which means the tree belonging to Coffa. Trees were often used as meeting places. For this situation, a settlement grew up around the tree and it in the end became called Coventry. The city is known for the origination of the Godiva legend and the engine vehicle in Britain, a middle age walled city and twentieth century mechanical force to be reckoned with, casualty of quick assault and a focal point of worldwide harmony and compromise, Coventry resembles no other British city.
The Cathedral Church of St Michael, regularly known as Coventry Cathedral, is the seat of the Bishop of Coventry and the Diocese of Coventry inside the Church of England. The church is situated in Coventry, West Midlands, England. The current diocesan is Christopher Cocksworth and the current dignitary is John Witcombe. The city has had three church buildings. The first was St Mary's, a devout structure, of which a couple of vestiges remain. The second was St Michael's, a fourteenth century Gothic church later assigned house of prayer, which stays a destroyed shell after its besieging during the Second World War. The third is the new St Michael's Cathedral, worked after the pulverisation of the previous.
