Legacy of The Blood Angels:
Our origins can be traced to The Blood Angels, who helped newfags purely for the sake of vengeance against spawnfags and oldfags. Back in those days there was no leadership system, and no long term objective beyond saving new players from spawn. Even after finding a stash the group was still rather poor.
Yet despite all of this, they still have a legacy. The Blood Angels legacy is the foundation of modern Covenant creed. It sets us apart and above other groups, even those with similar objectives and ideology. This pitiful little newfag group was the crucible which led to far greater things. For in their death, The Blood Angels reformed into something greater.
Birth of The Covenant:
So it was that after much planning and consideration, a new group was born. We cast away the obsolete vestiges of monarchy and nepotism, and became meritocratic. Above all else the Covenant was focused on becoming ever more organized, efficient and powerful. It carried on the principles of its forerunner, but took a new step forward as well.
The question was simple, why not educate and empower new players instead of simply helping them? This was the way of things. We would take the most hapless and incompetent, and give them the knowledge and tools they needed to become greater. By wielding the true potential of newfags, we would grow far faster than any other group. This growth would be in the form of immediate dependable manpower, as well as ever improving systems of order.
Make no mistake however, these were not easy times. The Covenant was a burgeoning power, but if we drew too much attention it could spell disaster. Members had to pace themselves or risk getting burnt out. At this time we lacked most of the conventional fail-safes and security measures we have today. Thankfully insiders didnt pop up until later, but there were always plenty of questionable characters. The Covenant rolled out the Requisition system, alongside its path of merit system this would be a basic incentive for members to work towards. Eventually it was clear changes were due in leadership.
The Blood Council was formed. Three Lords, 2 Harbingers and a Keeper, to share the power once held by only 1. It was also their duty to share the responsibilities that came with that power. Ultimately this was fine for a time, but once more the group would need to change and adapt. That meant better, more active leadership.
The Noble Covenant:
It could be said that here the 3 aspects of our creed took shape. A caste system was introduced, and new leaders took the stand. This was an era of rapid infrastructure expansion. The time when many of our most infamous members began to flourish, and some of those members are still around to this day.
We began to train pvpers, build new bases for the leadership and dedicated members, and build relations with other groups.
Of course most groups we encountered were hostile to us because we help new players. At this point we dealt with an ongoing war against spawnfag groups who would stop at nothing to bring us down. Everything from assaults on domains, griefing and insiding was attempted against us to no avail. Indeed it only fortified our experience and resolve.
Despite the gradual triumphs there was still growing pains. The Covenant had grown in population, perhaps a bit too much in such a short period. To compensate for this dramatic increase in active members in need of assignment, things had to improve. There was only one way that could be done.
The Zealous Covenant:
It was finally time for us to begin taking more direct action in the community. For a long time we had taken great pains to remain out of the public eye. This would begin to change. Crusades to spawn became quite frequent. These short term group events were meant to build morale and accomplish a goal. Usually to save large amounts of new players at once. Soon however the pvp academy had produced enough knights that we could have pvp focused crusades as well.
It was a golden era for The Covenant. A time of promising prosperity. The wealth of our members grew from stash hunting and duping. Many of our enemies began to crumble and fade away, and those remaining could not face us directly. The group had evolved to the point of having a culture all its own. Some members joined and stayed for its friendly yet productive atmosphere alone. Our ideals on the server became something to rally behind and fight for.
Soon we would reach a zenith of order, power, and wealth that would eclipse all other groups. By this point The Covenant was on every highway, crusading every week, sometimes twice a week. We had over 40 regularly active members, building, pvping and innovating. It was only a matter of time before we reached the final stages of ascension. This could ultimately change 2b2t and perhaps anarchy itself, forever.
Alas it was not to be. For no matter what we did there was no preparation for the sudden devastating elytra patches. In less than a week members were suddenly stranded. Infrastructure was unable to be maintained, bases never reached and pvpers never resupplied. For a time many members carried on regardless, but so many systems and events depended on rapid reliable travel, and that was long gone. In an effort to preserve what we had left, all operations and projects were effectively suspended. A slow dormancy settled over The Covenant, and the Dark Era began.
The Dark era:
There is little to be said about this time. It was a period of inactivity for the most part. Much of the leadership held on to the idea that we could start over on 0b0t. This didnt last. It soon became clear that the only way to survive was to return to 2b2t. In order to do that we had to once again change and evolve, or perhaps devolve.
Over the course of many months, systems were reformed or scrapped. leadership was shifted and downsized. Many inactive members were kicked from the discord. Those true to The Covenant remained. Soon enough we would step forward. So first we stepped back.
The Noble Covenant reborn:
It took about a month for us to fully recover from the Dark Era. Highway infrastructure was steadily reclaimed. Systems were once again improved upon, new (and old) forms of travel were put to use. Things have gone well since then. We are once again on track towards the hegemonic horizon. We are still more active and ordered than other groups, but time must always be accounted for.
Everything takes more time now, and in some cases more effort. This is why we are more decisive and structured than before. It is also why we no longer hide from the awareness of the community. The past has taught us alot, and few groups survived what we faced. So much happened since the simplistic days of the Blood Angels. So much awaits before our ultimate triumph on 2b2t.
