This website is the culmination of my action research and capstone project conducted during the 2017-2018 school year. My research surrounded teaching self-regulating skills and strategies to my kindergarten and first-grade students through a program, Verbal Behavior. Specifically, this research was designed to help students learn how to: (1) self-regulate their feelings and emotions, independently or with reminders, (2) use de-escalation strategies, and (3) self-monitor their behavior.
I am a first-year, Primary Structured Behavior Skills (SBS) teacher in a metropolitan area. As a CADRE Project teacher, I am earning my Master's in Behavior Intervention. What I love most about my role as a behavior teacher is seeing students enter the SBS program, recognize how they can grow and learn to self-monitor their behaviors, and witness their love of school again! I learn so much from my students! Whether they are 5 years old or 9 years old, they teach me about patience, resilience, and never giving up on something you believe in even if it is difficult.
