Welcome!

The purpose of this course is to help out any adult who is unfamiliar with the special education lingo. This can be very overwhelming and confusing because most people do not know about an IEP or what FAPE,LRE,IDEA or ESY are. Individuals can go into an IEP meeting not knowing a thing about their disabled child's rights when it comes to the child’s education. I have included three modules with short assignments and quizzes. Since this is a informational, optional, free website there are no grades. The modules offer the information, the assignments are a review and the quizzes are used to test your own understanding. I hope this course will be of some help to you.

Unfortunately, some schools will take advantage of that, they will deny or give the bare minimum to the individual with a disability due to high turnover with SPED teachers, overcrowding of programs and lack of funding. I taught Special Education in a self contained setting for four years. I also have a twelve year old son who has Epilepsy, Sensory Processing Disorder and is on the Spectrum, if there is one thing I have learned over the last twelve years it would be to arm yourself with SPED knowledge prior to your first IEP meeting!

For the purposes of IEP related services, I hope this site will be useful in guiding other individuals through

the ever so complicated and always changing world of SPED law

and lingo.
