On The Waterfront...and The Forefront
Vallejo was once on the brink. Having declared bankruptcy in 2008 the future of this former state Capital city was uncertain at best. Now, thanks to smart city government policies, including a plan developed by UC Berkeley Students, and the arrival of the ferry this beautiful and historic waterfront city has become a vibrant and hip place to live and play. As artists have been priced out of Oakland many of them have taken up home in Vallejos more affordable arms. Wherever the artists go, inevitably, makes areas hipper and more desirable. Vallejo is no exception, just visit the Mad hatter Festival or second Fridays and you'll experience some of the best art scene the Bay has to offer. The downtown area is a bustling Haven with Great restaurants like Provisions, Zio Fraedos and Manny's, The beloved Mare Island Ferry Taproom, Shops like Alibi book shop, Yesteryears, The Joint and Anchor Pantry. and, of course, tons of art galleries and studios. Similar to Oakland in many ways, Vallejo is a large a city and the many neighborhoods are varied from the historic core with its grand Victorians, to Vallejo Heights with views of Napa and SF on a clear day, to the tract homes by Six Flaggs, to the modern 2 stories in Glen Cove with views of the Carquinez Strait, oh and don't forget the McMansions by the golf course! Vallejo is still very affordable. A studio unit at The Charles, an old Victorian hotel turned to condos right on Georgia st and walking distance to the Ferry, can be purchased for around $155k!! A beautiful old Victorian or craftsman can be purchased for around $550k and a Large modern 5 bedroom Glencove home will run you about $1m. With its temperate weather, vibrant downtown and direct ferry line it's no wonder more and more people are choosing Vallejo.
