I really enjoyed taking the quiz. Some of the questions really made me stop and reflect on my usage. For example the quiz asked if social media was the first thing you check in the morning. This made me really consider how much I pick up my phone and just how many hours are wasted scrolling social media.
Luckily, after my assessment I was considered to have a healthy relationship with social media. For the most part my days are too busy to spend too much time on my phone. I like to use social media as a tool to stay informed, find receipes, and communicate with friends.
It was interesting to learn just how divided the political parties are when it comes to social media. Even in different age groups the ratio stays about the same. Republician and Republician leaning citizens viewed social media as having an negative impact on society. While Democrats and Democratic Leaning citizens felt social media has a positive impact or none to little impact at all.

Social media has its positives and its negatives. While some people use social media sites to stay connected and informed others have turned it into a more negative light. Social media can be used to share information, stay in contact with family or friends, receive news updates amongst many other popular uses. Most social media sites have commenting and messaging capabilites. These extra features allow others to comment on what is being posted or shared. This leaves an opportunity for bullying and harrassment. The constant need for stimuli has also made social media addicting and can have negative impacts on productivity, self confidence, and esteem. On the other hand I personally have recieved breaking news on CNN's Instagram site before the local news channels have been able to pick up the story. The speed of informaton through social media is unmatched. However, you must also verify that the source is credible because of how easy it is for false information to be spread through social media sites. From this unit I have learned just how powerful social media is due to the vast majority of adults owning 1 or more social accounts. It is imperative that you realize that the algorithm is designed to keep you scrolling and will not prioritize posts from family/ friends. It will show whatever will keep you most engaged. Social media is a tool; whether you use it in a postive or negative way is the difference you make.
