Richard Malone's work explores the tactile nature of textiles and the cultural significance of weaving. Malone's work encompasses knotting, binding, weaving, and draping to create unique sculptural forms. Malone's work is a reflection on the relationship between individual and collective experiences, and the social, cultural, and political implications of textiles. Richard Malone, (They/Them, He/Him) is an Irish multi-disciplinary artist and designer from Wexford. Malone's work explores queerness, class, place and otherness through sculpture, performance, textiles and installation. In 2023, Malone won The Golden Fleece Award for Visual Art. Recent solo shows include Figures at Ormston House, Limerick and knot, bind, Gesture, bend at the National Gallery, Dublin, following a residency at the museum in collaboration with Foundation Giacometti. Malone’s largest work to date was shown in London’s Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2023, specially created in response to the institution's Wohl Room (Central Hall). Malone’s work has been celebrated internationally and is in some of the world's most respected museums and collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London, The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) Melbourne and the Central Saint Martins Museum and Study collection.
