Hello volleyball enthusiasts,
Dr. Darren Cannell here, your coach from the Canadian Elite Academy. I understand that not making the team can be a huge disappointment, but it's not the end of your volleyball journey. Today, let's discuss how to handle this setback and plan your next steps.
It's natural to feel disappointed when things don't go as planned. It's okay to feel sad and allow yourself some time to process your feelings. Remember, it's not a reflection of your worth, just an outcome of a specific event.
Seek feedback from the coaches. Ask them about your performance during the tryouts and the areas where you need improvement. This information will be invaluable as you work on enhancing your skills.
Don't let this setback stop you from playing the game you love. Continue practicing to improve your skills. Work on the areas you need to improve based on the feedback you received.
If you didn't make the high school team, there are still plenty of other opportunities to play volleyball. Look into club teams, recreational leagues, or even beach volleyball in your community. These can all be great ways to continue playing and improving.
Maintain your fitness level. Regular exercise, healthy eating, and adequate sleep are essential for any athlete. Staying fit will not only benefit your volleyball skills but also your overall well-being.
Maintain a positive attitude. It's easier said than done, but try to see the situation as an opportunity to grow and improve rather than a failure. Remember, many successful athletes have faced similar setbacks in their careers.
Finally, don't give up. If playing on the team is your goal, commit to trying out again next season. Use the time between now and then to work on your skills, gain more experience, and come back stronger.
Not making the team is disappointing, but it's not a dead-end. It's a chance to reassess, to grow, and to come back stronger. Remember, every setback is a setup for a comeback. Stay focused, keep practicing, and believe in yourself.
Keep your spirits high, and never stop loving the game.
Cheers, Dr. Darren Cannell Head Coach, Canadian Elite Academy
