I aspire to be a future teacher, and with this career goal in mind, there are several important qualities that will help me be a highly effective teacher. I believe that it is important for every teacher to be patient, and for every teacher to want to continue their own education. In this class, I have taken away so many practical applications that I will be able to use in the future. The theories of learning, for example, will be extremely valuable for planning out lessons and facilitating learning. While I was most drawn to behaviorism, as a teacher, I will need to be able to balance behaviorism with both cognitivism and constructivism. As a teacher, I want to keep in mind that students do not all learn the same, and it is up to me as an instructor to make lessons thorough and diverse. It is also very important to me to keep up with educational technologies such as AI and Learning Management Systems. Educational Technologies that use AI require a teacher to be well-trained with its use, and to be aware of ethical concerns with the technology, and I am committed to this.
As for personal traits, I believe that two of my strengths are my patience, and my commitment. I am someone that has spent many hours in and out of classrooms volunteering with children, and I find that patience is one of my good qualities. It does children a disservice when someone is short with them, or unwilling to help or understand their question or situation. My other personal strength is my commitment to learning. Education is a field that holds my genuine interest, and I know that I will be diligent in continuing my education and personal learning to be the best educator that I can be. One personal weakness is that I am bad at planning and preparing for the future. I have trouble looking forward, and sometimes struggle with knowing what I need to do to reach my personal goals. I will take my strengths and weaknesses with my, and actively work to improve myself for my future career.
