Who decides the rating/time commitment of a class?

• The ratings displayed in the class information dashboard are auto calculated from students who have taken the course previously. Each metric is an average of all the anonymous student responses.

• For example, if you are trying to schedule an entire quarter using CourseAid, you might want to add up the total amount of time outside of class for each class. You also might want to consider the overall difficulty of class, which means combined difficulty of all selected classes.

I am interested in being a mentor, how do I sign up?

• Simply fill out our Google Form and specify that you would like to become a mentor.

Are mentors paid?

• No, mentors are not paid. Mentorship is voluntary, and it can be a great resume builder!

How often is this system updated?

• The dashboard automatically updates when someone fills out the Google Form!

Registration & Class Selection FAQ

Where can I find classes that will be offered?

• To find official classes that are being offered the next quarter, use Schedule Builder (found in Student Center on your portal).

• To find planned classes that are being offered over the next year, go to https://schedules.calpoly.edu/ (you can only access this while on campus, using Cal Poly Wi-Fi). To navigate to the IME courses that are being offered, first click "Subjects 52-CENG," then "IME." The classes being shown at first are classes being offered this quarter, and at the top right there are "-" and "+" buttons, click the "+" button to look at future quarters and "-" to go back.

How do I find out what classes I need to take?

• Go to https://flowcharts.calpoly.edu/, and select your catalog year, major, and concentration, then select the curriculum sheet which will open a pdf with all required courses.

Where can I look to find out about classes outside the IME department or not listed on CourseAid?

• Check out https://www.polyratings.com/, where you can search by professor, department, class, or other.

How do I register?

• If you need further help, attend a registration workshop: https://success.calpoly.edu/workshop-schedules

  • Clubs may also put on workshops, such as SOC or IISE.
