The County Durham Cleaning Company CIC was formed through the partnership of Kevin Bankhead, a food production facility manager with over 15 years’ experience maintaining the rigorous hygiene standards required by public health legislation, and Ashleigh Sharpe, a domestic and commercial cleaning specialist with more than 12 years in the industry.

The company began during the UK lockdown, when we responded to the urgent needs of people in isolation who were unable to access essential cleaning or support services. What started as a community response grew into a purpose-built CIC, combining professional expertise with compassion and social responsibility.

By bringing together the precision and compliance of the food production sector with the efficiency and attention to detail of domestic and commercial cleaning, we’ve built a company unmatched in knowledge, experience, and adaptability. Our specialist equipment and training enable us to handle every situation, from routine cleaning to complex emergency interventions.

Drawing on our background, we provide real-time, on-site support in collaboration with other agencies, helping those who struggle to find assistance elsewhere. We work closely with housing authorities, social services, and council enforcement teams, offering fully supported site reports and lasting solutions that prioritise both cleanliness and care.

With ongoing cuts to essential services, more people are struggling every day. Many turn to social services or local councils, who themselves face increasing pressure and limited resources. In County Durham, an area historically affected by low income, rising crime, and a decline in community connection, individuals often become isolated, leading to loneliness, anxiety, depression, and, in the most tragic cases, loss of life.

Our work aims to reverse that trend. The services we provide help people regain pride in their homes, rebuild confidence, and rediscover a sense of belonging. In doing so, we help to strengthen community spirit and encourage neighbours to look out for one another.
