"Country Remedy RV has over 16 years of "real-world" RV experience"... Let's dig into that with a little Q & A, shall we?
Q. Who Are You?
First of all, my name is Steve Caldwell. I am blessed to be the husband of an amazing woman, father of seven children and humble servant of my savior Jesus Christ.
I strive to honor God, my family and my neighbor and raise our children in the same manner.
Q. How much experience do you have?
Officially ten years in the RV world as a self-employed RV Tech/business owner and several years prior, messing around with personal RV projects and working for a couple of dealers.
Q. What got you interested in RV's?
I have always loved camping and as a bachelor, went quite frequently. Then I found the woman of my dreams! After my bride and I got back from our honeymoon, we went for a tent camping trip at a local state park. My lovely bride wasn't so enthused about using air mattresses and vault toilets with a dome shaped thin skin of nylon materal to "protect" us from critters and weather. So, we cobbled what little money we could and purchased a used fixer-upper PopUP camper. After some hard work and a lot of head scratching, we finaly had an "RV"!
While we really enjoyed all of the comforts of our little camper, we dreamed of having something a little bigger with a toilet. This is where the light bulb #1 came on.
We were able to sell our little PopUp and made some profit! We took that money and bought another fixer, got it up to par, used it and sold it for another profit. After a few seasons of doing this we decided to to try the "full-time" thing ourselves with our 4-kids and the family dog.
Winter was coming and our time camp hosting was ending. We decided to head south. We went to Texas. Big, Bold, Beautiful Texas. The RV parks were the largest I had ever seen! As we set up our rig and during our time there, I noticed a phenomenon. There were guys with service trucks coming and going regularly. Mobile RV service guys! Thats a thing!?!?! Light bulb #2 just powered on and it was burning bright!
We came back to Missouri and I found a job as a tech at a small dealership, got shipped off to indiana for some training and learned a lot. With my background and experience in electrical/electronics, residential construction/carpentry and mechanical know how, I found myself able to quickly identify causes and make corrections. It came as second nature.
After becoming very familiar and confident in this trade, I quit my job, made some business cards and bought a couple old Avions to restore. I originally stared out to buy and sell vintage campers but word got out that I could work on current models, everything from PopUps to Class A motorhomes and it was quickly turning into a relevant business.
2016. Country Remedy RV LLC was concieved, it grew and so the story continues...
Q. How well do you identify with the needs of you clients?
Very Well! Besides a LOT of recreational camping over the years, our family has actually done the full timing thing twice for several months each time. My wife and I have learned so much. From overlooking important details when picking an RV for its purpose to dealing with water intrusion during a storm in the middle of the night. Broken awnings, bad campgrounds, Navigating both huge cities and rural roads with a giant box on wheels following you to dealing with several kiddos (and the dog) living in and doing daily life within confined spaces. We learned how important on-board laundry machines are when full timing especially with kids! How to get creative with storage and not overload the suspension.
I learned the value of having to trust in people in unfamiliar places and also the the disapointments when the destination doesn't pan out like you had anticipated.
Q. How do your capabilities and pricing compare to a service center?
As a "mobile guy" I feel that my capabilities mostly supercede a brick and mortar shop.
#1 My client doesn't have to break down and pack up thier rig to get it looked at.
#2 I can do just about anything, aside from major structural stuff, that a shop can. And, get it done in a timely manner. The RV doesn't get dropped of for serveral weeks (or months) so there's virtually no down time for the client.
#3 You can watch me work! You get to see what your paying for. If I have a curious customer, I basically will turn that time into teaching moment kind of like instructor talking through what I'm evaluating and what I'm looking for. How, why and what caused it, how to prevent it from occuring again, and so on. You don't get anything close to that at a dealer's shop!
#4 Pricing? Lets just say that my rates are Very Fair and straight forward. I don't believe I've ever lost a client because my prices were to high. In fact, most seasoned RV owners are quite greatful and loyal because of the quality and accuracy of workmanship for the dollar amount they paid.
Q. Steve, What would you like to say about yourself and you business?
I am just a guy who works hard to provide and show his family he loves them, who's found something he's decently good at, who desires make a small difference by operating with integrity and showing up and following through. I want my kids to see, understand and appreciate that most things that come easy, also disapear easily and not to take advantage of folks, especially those who might be in a bind.
If you need a good "RV Guy" Feel free to give me a call.
Oh, and most of all,
"Do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God".
