The The Ravenloft setting is placed in a world also known as the Domains of Dread which vary in size, populace, and age as do the creatures and people living there. The Domains of Dread are commonly ruled by a Darklord who committed a terrible evil in the past and have been imprisoned by the mysterious Dark Powers within a domain.
