Roy has won multiple medals (Top 3 Overall) in each of the following categories:
* Senior Girls High School Volleyball
* Div 1-Tier 1 Boys and Girls Club Volleyball (includes Provincial and National medals)
* Div 2-Tier 1 and lower Girls Club Volleyball (includes Provincial and National medals)

Roy has served on numerous athlete identification and selection committees for numerous clubs; Team BC; VC REP; and both Team Canada’s Youth National Team and Junior National Team programs. In addition, Roy has worked with nearly 20 athletes who have gone on to represent Team Canada, and many more who have gone on to play post-secondary.
Roy has coached with a former Volleyball BC (VBC) Technical Director, in both school and club, where they optimized concepts and systems of play that would help them win 17U Gold at Div 1 Club Provincials, and 17U Silver at Div 1 Club Nationals; and would serve to form a core part of the Team BC program.
Roy’s coaching style was largely influenced by Pat Powers (USA Olympic Gold Medalist), Doug Reimer (UBC), John Kessel (USA Volleyball), and Marv Dunphy (USAV/Gold Medal Squared).
In the past, Roy has practiced and taught martial arts, and danced hip-hop. Outside of volleyball, Roy loves to drink coffee, listen to upbeat music, watch movies, play video games, and snowboard.
From the court to the classroom, Lieon has lived and breathed volleyball, whether playing recreationally or at the highest levels of competition. His love for the game began in high school, where he excelled in both volleyball and football. This passion led him to play for a USA Volleyball AA/B Men’s team in Austin, Texas (1998-2001), all while pursuing a Master’s degree in Kinesiology. He went on to play for the Duke University Men’s Club Volleyball team (2004-2007) during his Doctorate in Physical Therapy, earning Conference All-Star honors in 2005-2006. He also competed in the Asian 9-man tournament with the LA Mad Dogs, where they finished 1st in the consolation finals in Washington D.C. in 2006.
Since then, Lieon has continued to play at a competitive level, representing local teams in Seattle and Vancouver, BC. But his passion for volleyball goes beyond just playing—it’s about giving back. Over the years, Lieon has volunteered his time to assist with club and high school volleyball programs, including Austin Juniors, Vancouver’s local schools, and the Duke Men’s Club team. His dedication to growing the game and supporting players of all levels is at the heart of his coaching philosophy.
Lieon is excited to provide a positive and supportive environment where athletes can grow not just as players, but with good sportsmanship. His coaching focus is on mastering the basics, building a solid foundation for more advanced skills, and creating a love for the game that will last a lifetime. Above all, Lieon’s goal is to foster a mindset where players embrace being students of the game—not just for their seasons, but for the rest of their lives.
