TRAINING PLAN
Both teams will train together on two courts side-by-side, led by the same coaches, for efficient, effective training, and cohesive, uniform development. This two-court system of training is frequently used by college/university teams (e.g. red-shirts), but with more play time for everyone at tournaments (because our one big team is split into two for competition)!
Positional specific training can occur at the same time on two courts (e.g. setters and middles on one court, and outside hitters on the other). More training space minimizes the cramped feeling and reduces safety issues compared to the times when multiple positions are being trained at the same time on one court.
When it comes to 6v6 drills (e.g. wash or scrims), missing or injured players will no longer be a detriment to a team's training. With a pool of 20 athletes, 6v6 training occurs on one court, while the remaining athletes (waiting to be swapped into the 6v6 drill) get individual or small group training from coaches on the other court.
Part of the coaching staff includes two former Team BC coaches, Roy and Henry, who value an athlete's long-term development (LTD). Their experiences at the highest levels of volleyball, including University (UBC) and Canadian National Teams, helps them guide and develop an athlete to their highest potential. Athletes, especially females, gain more confidence when they possess a well-rounded skill set and are able to play all positions decently well, so both non-positional specific and positional specific training play a key part in the development philosophy.
With all athletes training together at the same time and place; competing at the same tournaments; and bonding together as one team, we hope the girls feel like one big happy family joined together by a love for volleyball!
