History
Costa Woods begins in 2017 as an initiative to rescue fallen trees after Hurricane Maria to give it a new identity through the lathe. In this way, we transform local woods into art. In the process of learning about the essential skills to work wood in the lathe we have enriched and learned about the benefits, characteristics and properties of many of the noble woods found in Puerto Rico.
Create pieces of wood with the help of the wooden lathe and in its process carry an educational message about the conservation of Puerto Rico's timber resources. In this way, the people who acquire our works can learn and value about the origin of the raw material (wood) and its transformation.
Become a local brand in the work of the noble woods of Puerto Rico and in turn, be a source of education both in the art of working the wooden lathe and in the knowledge of the properties, characteristics and value of wood resources.
The wooden works in Costa Woods are made by Dr. Anibal II Ruiz Lugo. An agronomist by profession, educator, worried for the environment and its natural resources, the artist found in the work with the wood lathe a space to express his creativity through the tropical woods of Puerto Rico. Each piece, unique, has its history rooted in its origins and route until it becomes in a piece of art.
