This three‑month Moon Camp program brings together 9‑year‑old students from Athens (teacher: Stavroula Lada) and Nicosia (teachers: Maria Michael Koffyfa & Elena Strati) through six focused activities. In February, the children meet, observe the Moon, and explore basic astronomy. In March, they collaborate to design a shared lunar base and complete robotics missions using Bee‑Bot or micro:bit. In April, they express their creativity through storytelling and art, and present all their work in a joint online “Moon Camp Expo”. The plan is simple, balanced, and supports meaningful cross‑school collaboration.

Myth2Space Online Meeting
with Dr. Emilia Smyrli from “Demokritos”
During the modern online meeting, our class — along with many other elementary schools from all over Greece — participated in a live, interactive presentation by astrophysicist Dr. Emilia Smyrli, as part of the Myth2Space program.
The meeting began with a creative and humorous introduction, where Ms. Smyrli introduced herself through cartoon images, showing that science can be fun.
She then explained what research means, presenting its basic elements:

Careful observation
Recording measurements
However, she emphasized that research is not only a process — it is also imagination, the first step for every discovery.
This was followed by the basic unit on the Sun, where the children learned that:
The Sun is a star, our own star.
The Earth is 149.2 million kilometers away from it.
The Sun holds 99.9% of the mass of the solar system.
The planets do not emit light, but reflect the light of the Sun.
The presentation continued with the history of solar observations, where Mrs. Smyrli explained that we know only an infinitesimal part of the Sun's life and that for the remaining 4.6 billion years we rely on simulations and comparisons with other stars.
Finally, the children met Aristarchus of Samos, the ancient Greek who first formulated the idea that the Earth moves around the Sun — a discovery that was confirmed many centuries later by Copernicus.
