Panel Discussion 1: Challenges in Technology Commercialisation with Indian Academia

Professor S Rajagopalan (Moderator)

•Dr. S. Rajagopalan received his B.Tech degree from IIT Delhi , PGDM from IIM Bangalore and Ph.D from IIT Kanpur.He was the Chief Executive Officer of the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology from 1982 to 1993 and was involved managing innovations that addressed the problems of Karnataka.

•He founded Technology Informatics Design Endeavour ( TIDE) a not for profit development society which focused on developing and disseminating technologies that are economically attractive, environmentally sustainable and socially acceptable in rural areas of Karnataka, that has won many accolades for its social impact.

•Dr Rajagopalan has been working in the area of Geographical Information Systems since 1989 and founded a Company Spatial Data Private Limited in 1999. This Company was pioneer in developing user-friendly digital maps of Indian Cities under the Brand Name Mapcue. Dr. Rajagopalan areas of interest includes innovation dissemination, economics of innovations, Geographical Information systems , and Economics of Information Technologies. He also heads the IIITB Innovation Centre, which aims at incubating and promoting innovations in the area of Information and Communication Technologies.

Dr. Aman Kokrady

•At Acceletrade, Aman as CEO and Co-Founder is focused on growing the company to provide best in class technology for trading and capital markets. Weare focused on building all round technology - software/hardware/math/analytics for trading invarious asset classes and in various countries.

•He was previously with Texas Instruments as IP Design Manager

•Aman received his PhD in Quantitative Finance from CMR Institute Of Technology and his Masters from IISc

Mr. Ganesh Shankar

•Ganesh aims to push technologies for energy and water management systems so that they become economically viable and reliable by using the power of IoT.

•Ganesh is Founder & MD at FluxGen Technologies developing technologies in Renewable Energy domain and Smart MicroGrids. FluxGen recently won the "IoT startup of the year" at the IoT India Congress and NI Engineering Impact Award atAustin,Texas.

•Ganesh is also the Co- Founder & Chairman 14W Technologies and Visiting Faculty at CCE, IISc teaching a course on Industrial IoT.

•He earned his masters in electronics from IISc and his bachelors from RVCE Bangalore.

Dr. Rupesh S Iyengar

•Dr. Iyengar is a High Performance Building Designer who believes in the philosophy “An Integrated & Sustainable Approach to the Design of the Built Environment.”

•His company Services Consultants LLP is involved in MEP design, sustainable design & Zero Energy building projects. Many of his projects have won global awards.

•He was part of an elite world panel of researchers at ETH, Zurich and The Future Cities Laboratory from where he pursued his Doctorate of Science in Sustainability and Zero Emission Design

•He earned the Gold Medal in Sustainability from the National University of Singapore for Masters of Science

He is also the university topper in Mechanical Engineering from BMSCE, Bangalore

Dr. Neha Satak

•Neha is CEO at Astrome Technologies Pvt. Ltd, a NewSpace company planning to provide satellite broadband internet service to alldeveloping countries using HTS micro-satellite with 10X more capacity in Low Earth Orbit.

•She is also Partner at Experimental Center for Applied Physical Systems (ECAPS), LLC that has been focused on developing technology for asteroid detection, deflection and exploration. We have completed one research grant aiming towards developing an asteroid deflection payload to paint an asteroid that will change its course due to a long-term acting changed Yarkovsky force.

•Neha received her PhD in Aerospace from Texas A&M and a masters in Aerospace from IISc Bangalore

Panel Discussion 2: Analytics: Gaps between Industry and Research

Dr. Kshitija Joshi

•Dr. Kshitija is Assistant Professor in the Reserve Bank of India Programme for Interdisciplinary Approaches to Economic Issues at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore.

•Prior to her PhD at IISc, she was working with several reputed organizations such as Reserve Bank of India, Modelytics, and Amazon.com in the data analytics area.

•Her research areas include Venture Capital, High-Technology Start-ups, Social Entrepreneurship, Financial Inclusion, Inequality and Human Development.

Dr. Prasanna Shrinivas Venkataraman

•Dr. Prasanna is currently Associate Director at EY, Leading a 100+ members strong quant team working on banking book/ trading book analytics. Building highest performing analytics team with specific focus on fraud risk (banking and insurance) and financial crimes. Leading the development, validation and delivery of CCAR, PPNR, Driver based modeling, IFRS 9/IRB models for global clients

•He was previously associated with FICO and IBM

•He earned his PhD and masters in Network Economics from IISc

Ms. Goda Ramkumar

•Goda Ramkumar is a Principal Data Scientist with the Data Science group at Olacabs. She leads the machine learning and optimization algorithms behind pricing and matching for Ola. Prior to joining Ola, she worked on variety of problems in Airline Pricing and Revenue Management at Sabre for 10 years.

•She holds an undergraduate and Masters degree from IIT Madras.

Dr. Saptarshi Das

•Dr. Saptarshi is currently manager scoping out the data science R&D agenda for Shell by discussing with stakeholders across Shell's businesses. With additional responsibilities related to buy or build, selection of external technical partners, IP strategy, oversee development and finally deployment at Shell's businesses

•Saptarshi helped companies like Morgan Stanley, Siemens and Shell in their foray of developing capabilities and products related to data science. He is experienced in managing diverse stakeholders across organization to deliver critical projects.

•He earned his PhD from Universität Wien in Applied Mathematics and his Masters from IIT Bombay in Applied Mathematics and Informatics.

Mr. Lokesh Mrig

•Lokesh is currently Vice President, Quantitative Investments at State Street Global Advisors India. He has over ten years of experience in quantitative investment research and portfolio management.

•His specialties include Global Equities, Equity Factor Investing, Smart Beta, Multi Asset Class Investing, Portfolio Construction, Performance & Risk Attribution

•He received his Masters in Financial Engineering from Duke and Bachelors from IIT Madras
