I believe students learn best when they can actively engage with a problem and get their hands "dirty". For this reason, I try to center my classes around doing mathematics rather than passively listening to someone speak. It is important to create a welcoming environment where all feel encouraged to participate and where the fear of "being wrong" is replaced with the courage to try new things.
