Mr. Dwyer

Mr. Dwyer is the music teacher at Correia Middle School. He has been teaching in San Diego for 16 years, 13 years of which he has taught at Correia. He has been playing trombone for 39 years. Mr. Dwyer has a bachelor's degree in music performance, and he attended The Juilliard School. He got his master's degree at Northwestern University in Chicago.

After college, Mr. Dwyer performed professionally for about 10 years, and during that time he discovered his knack for teaching. Then, he went back to school and got his teaching credential at Northern Illinois University. Mr. Dwyer grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and he lived in New York and Chicago before coming to San Diego.

Outside of school, Mr. Dwyer spends lots of time with his wife and two kids, he also really enjoys doing home improvement projects. He believes compassion is an important part of being a teacher because, “Every student that walks into your room has value, learns a different way, or might have personal issues going on that may impact their productivity in the classroom,” Mr. Dwyer says, “It is important that every student feels safe, valued, and respected when they are in my music classes.”
