Head Tennis Coach, Coronado High School
David Willingham has served as the Head Tennis Coach at Coronado High School for the past eight years, bringing with him over 40 years of professional coaching experience. Coming from a tennis family, David’s passion for the sport runs deep. His brothers, Chris and Mark, and his sister, Susie, are also tennis professionals, sharing the same lifelong passion for the sport.
David began his coaching career in Ohio, teaching alongside his brother for 16 years, before moving to Indiana. There, he spent 14 years at the Carmel Racquet Club and served as Head Pro while also serving as the Director of the HSE Tennis Program in Fishers. His dedication and leadership have earned him numerous accolades, including USTA Western States High School Coach of the Year and Nevada Preps Girls Coach of the Year.
As a player, David began his collegiate career at the University of Kansas before transferring to the University of Toledo, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He played as the No. 1 singles and doubles player for the Rockets, earning First Team All-Mid-American Conference honors in 1983 and 1984.
David currently resides in Henderson, Nevada, with his wife, Lea, and their four children: Brooke, Alex, Ellena, and Austyn.
As a Junior Player in High School, David defeated the Missouri Southern State College No. 1 singles player, in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
