Who is considered a "new" Band Member?
Any band member that is new to the band is a new band student. It has nothing to do with the grade your student is in.
If you do not attend band camp, you do not perform on the field, you participate in stand tunes, and assist with equipment when the half time show is occurring. The music and the choreography is learned at Band Camp. That is always in August before school starts.
Color Guard is part of the "Band Students" in addition to those who play instruments.
Any parent/guardian that would like to chaperone for the marching band needs to submit all district required clearances to Mrs. Hunt at the Jr. High office. If you have previously submitted your clearances for any other Cornell School District activity, they are held on file and do not need to be submitted again.
Chaperones are needed for all home and away games. Chaperones are also needed for other events such Band Festivals, Football Games and Parades. We send out sign up sheets for this utilizing Sign up Genius. These all can be found here: Forms, Notices, and Signups
Sign ups are NOT sent for chaperones for trips, as this is captured when Mr. Lamb sends his Google Form to gather interest and commitment.
ISA - Individual Student Account - This is an account that is kept track of by the band treasurer for your student, individually. Any money that your student fundraises individually will be put into this account for them to use for trips. This account will also reflect any other payments you make specifically to the marching band for your student. When this is an option you will notice on the payment forms this should be checked.
Band shoes: The cost is approximately $38, checks for these can be made out to Cornell Band Parents. Information will be sent out via Mr. Lamb during Band Camp. These orders are placed once a year. There are extras in the closet where the band unforms are stored, if your child has a growth spirt during the season in a pinch, until new shoes can be ordered. These shoes are true to size and white shoe polish can be used on them, if a damp cloth doesn't help to keep them clean. These will most likely be a one time purchase for most.
Band Sweat Shirt: The cost at this time is $35 for sizes 2XL and above $40. These sweatshirts run a little big; but you want them to be a little bigger to wear layers underneath (football playoffs are COLD). Additionally these can a one time cost as well. Always wash in cold water, and line dry to make them last.
Each year we have a trip, every other year we have a "Big trip". These trips can range from $300-$1800 these costs will very based on rates and number of attendees. This also varies based on how much the Cornell Band Parent Association is able to contribute year to year, to lower the over all costs.
No, the annual traveling trips that the marching band plans are not mandatory, but they are highly recommended. It is a great experience for the kids to perform in numerous venues and settings. We have a fundraiser every month for the school year, and variations of fundraisers to make sure everyone has an ample chance of having their trips fully funded.
A show shirt is the T-Shirt that is provided to wear for the season, this is to be worn at every game, and when specified
A Trip Shirt will also be provided to wear for which ever trip we have scheduled.
These are to be worn so that they match and look to have the same uniform, as the band jacket is taken off in the stands.

When football season is over, for concert band they are to wear a white dress shirt and black dress pants, white dress shirt and a skirt, etc.
There are two main types:
Group Fundraisers:
Football Concessions and the 50/50 during the games these are staffed by the parents, all of these profits go to the Cornell Band Parents Association
Dine to Donate Fundraisers all of these profits go to the Cornell Band Parents Association
Individual Fundraisers:
We have well established relationships with many vendors to give a variety of opportunities to fundraise. We fundraise during the school year only to give our band boosters a summer break too. Many people already are aware of our fundraising schedule, so things are easy to sell.
The profit for these fundraisers varies per vendor, and the amount of total sales for the group.
When we have Can Tags, and the DANCE Show Concession Stand we will ask for limited numbers of students and Adults. We then minus out the cost from the total, divide this by the number of shifts. The Adult's time is counted additionally to be added to the Band Students ISA Account.
All profits from fundraisers are put into the ISA Account to be used to counter balance the cost of trips, and items specified on forms. You will see "Band Account" as an option to choose.
All of these opportunities can be found here: Calendar of Events and also Fundraisers you will find that there is a fundraiser scheduled for every month of the school year.
When we have Signups for these events to be far to all, we will first limit the number of times that you can sign up until everyone's had at least 48 hours to acknowledge the opportunity. These can be found here when scheduled, these will be events that are dependent on the weather or when we ourselves are provided with the schedules. You will find these signups here: Forms, Notices, and Signups
The Account balances will always be provided near the times that payments are due for trips. You will receive a form and an email from Mr. Lamb with payment options and your account balances. The initial announcement for trips will be via email from the band director, then you will additionally find these reminders in the Band app, and here Calendar of Events for your convivence.
At the end of your first year, you are emailed the balance of your account.

Account balances can additionally be requested at any time to the cornellbandparents@gmail.com please keep in mind these will not immediately be available following every fundraiser, as we need time to processing all of the accounting.
We cover many costs including, but not limited to: Band student show and trip shirts, meals that are sometimes provided after school practices, end of the year picnics, senior banners, funding the costs for running concession stands, paying half of the cleaning bill for uniforms, and last but not least lowering over all costs to all members.
