Cornell Research on Tobacco Regulation

Cornell Research on Tobacco Regulation (CRTR) is a Cornell-based research team focusing on topics concerning tobacco regulation. The team includes faculty, alumni, and Ph.D. students from the Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy and the Department of Economics at Cornell University.

Professors Kenkel and Mathios have conducted research on tobacco regulation as Cornell faculty and have a long record of external research funding from the NIH and other sources through the Cornell Office of Sponsored Programs. Please see the acknowledgment footnotes in the research papers for the details.

The team acknowledges past and continuing support through grants to Cornell University from the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World, Inc. (FSFW), a U.S. nonprofit 501(c) (3) private foundation. Our studies are, under the terms of the grant agreements with FSFW, editorially independent of FSFW. The FSFW had no role in the design and conduct of the studies; collection, management, analysis, or interpretation of the data; preparation, review, or approval of the manuscripts; or the decision to submit manuscripts for publication. The contents, selection, and presentation of facts, as well as any opinions expressed herein are the sole responsibility of the authors and under no circumstances shall be regarded as reflecting the positions of FSFW.  Through September 2023, FSFW received charitable gifts from PMI Global Services Inc. (PMI), which manufactures cigarettes and other tobacco products. Independent from PMI since its founding in 2017, FSFW continues to operate in a manner that ensures its independence from any commercial entity.
