Content Area and Pedagogical Knowledge – The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teacher creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice.
This artifact for Standard 2 is an Entrepreneur Skills and Characteristics Concept Map. This map was used along with an You Tube video. The students used it to record specific skills or characteristic that was detailed in the video. They also wrote down at least one thing about each skill.
The use of the concept map will be beneficial for both the student and myself. Concept maps are used to provide visual representation of student understanding about particular topic being studied. It will be a benefit for the students because it will give them a more engaging option to take notes. As for me as the teacher it has its benefits. This teaching-learning strategy is grounded in constuctivist theory, which states that we create meaning from the interaction between our experiences and our ideas. A concept map will also benefit me to make the determination that the students knows the information that is being presented to them. I will use the map as an exit slip formative assessment.
