I spend a lot of my free time thinking about and looking at native plants. Plant lineages that most captivate me are orchids (Orchidaceae), viscaceous mistletoes (Visceae), mariposa lilies (Calochortus), and oaks (Quercus). I am also interested in the flora of the Klamath-Siskiyou region of southwestern Oregon and northwestern California.
You can find information about some of my publicly-available plant-related projects below:
Umpqua mariposa lily (Calochortus umpquaensis) in southern Oregon, 2023
You can find my iNaturalist profile here. In addition to posting images and audio recordings of organisms that I observe, I contribute identifications to others' observations and help curate taxonomy on the site.
Larch dwarf mistletoe (Arceuthobium laricis) in the Wallowa Mountains, 2025
I have created and edited several Wikipedia articles to expand the site's coverage of dwarf mistletoes (Arceuthobium). Articles I have contributed to recently include those for:
Western white pine dwarf mistletoe (my photos!!)
Knobcone pine dwarf mistletoe (more of my photos!!)
Southwestern white pine dwarf mistletoe (if someone wants to buy me a ticket to Tucson, then I can take some photos for the article!!)
