At Core Concepts Tutoring, we believe every student has the ability to grow into their full potential. Based in Needham, Massachusetts, we provide online tutoring for students in grades K–8, focusing on Science, English, and Math.
Our approach makes learning meaningful by helping students understand why things work—not just what the answers are. When students grasp the reasoning behind a concept, they build confidence, curiosity, and long‑lasting academic skills.
Hi! My name is Avery Liaw, and I’m the founder of Core Concepts Tutoring, based in Needham, Massachusetts. I grew up in the Needham Public Schools, so I understand the learning environment, curriculum, and expectations local students experience every day.
Now, as a student at Minuteman High School studying biotechnology, I’m passionate about helping younger learners build strong foundations in science, English, and math. I’ve worked on hands‑on projects like PCR‑based GMO detection and microbiology experiments, and I love making complex topics fun, visual, and easy to understand.
What makes my tutoring style unique is my focus on helping students understand the “why” behind every concept—not just memorizing answers. When students truly understand how something works, learning becomes more meaningful, enjoyable, and confidence‑building.
Every session is tailored to each student’s pace, strengths, and learning style.
I focus on building confidence, not just improving grades.
Lessons include visuals, real‑world examples, experiments explained, and problem‑solving activities.
Students leave each session with clear takeaways and practice ideas they can use right away.
When I’m not teaching, I’m active in FFA (Future Farmers of America), science fairs, and leadership activities at school. My goal is to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning in every student I work with.
At Core Concepts Tutoring, our work is guided by four core values that shape every lesson and every student interaction.
Curiosity — Encouraging students to ask questions, explore ideas, and discover how things work.
Confidence — Building self‑belief through steady progress and positive reinforcement.
Growth — Helping students improve step by step, developing strong academic foundations.
Support — Creating a patient, kind learning environment where students feel safe to try, learn, and grow.
