About

Corbin Montenegro (he/him, b. 2004) is an award-winning composer, performer, scholar, and future educator from St. George, Kansas. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education from Kansas State University, where he studies voice under Jesus de Hoyos. In addition, he is a member of the school's flagship choral ensemble, Concert Choir, and also sings professionally with the Topeka-based Sonus Chamber Choir.

During his undergraduate education, he completed field experience at the elementary and secondary level at Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 schools in Manhattan, KS, and worked as a substitute teacher and bus driver for USD 383 and Rock Creek USD 323 schools. He served as a student intern with the Flint Hills Youth Choirs' new tenor-bass ensemble, the Frontier Singers, as well as with the Kantorei KC Summer Choral Institute. He also served as a camp counselor at Kansas State University's Summer Choral Institute and Konza Music Academy.

In 2026, he founded the Manhattan Vox Nova Singers, a chamber choir consisting largely of Kansas State University students and members of the Manhattan community.

As a composer, Montenegro's works have enjoyed performances by ensembles across the US and Canada. His works have been premiered by the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Tau Chapter Brass Ensemble and the Pasadena Chorale. In 2026, he won first place at the Kansas State University ACDA Chapter Composition Competition and was a semifinalist in the Calgary-based Spiritus Chamber Choir's composition competition.

He holds membership in the National Association for Music Education; the American Choral Directors Association; Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia; the Collegiate Choral Composition Community; and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
