Calling for new singers!

If you enjoy Music, come to Aula Alumni Choir & sing with us! We currently are between 15 & 20 singers with a very diverse background, all sharing the desire to sing, enjoy Music, have a good time and make the audience have fun.
The Choir is a space for musical and personal growth in which it is not necessary to have previous musical knowledge. You don't need to have studied Music; just need to want to sing and a certain commitment to attend our rehearsals.

Conductor

Gerard Guerra López (Barcelona, 1989) | musi(c+archi)tecture | Graduate in Classical & Contemporary Music by the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) and Architect by the Barcelona's School of Architecture (ETSAB), Polytechnic University of Catalonia | Musician & Architect, he is a pianist, composer and conductor. He pursues his musical studies in his home town, at the Liceu Conservatory, the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona and later at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), as well as in Chicago (USA) as a result of the international scholarship he earns once he completed his studies at Aula Escola Europea in Barcelona. Meanwhile, he completes his musical studies in the fields of organ, violin, chamber music, singing and conducting.
conducting | He receives conducting lessons by Antoni Ros Marbà, Manel Cabero, Xavier Puig, Pere Lluís Biosca, Elisenda Carrasco, Eva Martínez, Jordi Lluch, Cecília Velázquez, Carles Comalada, Albert Argudo, Daniel Antolí, Santiago Serrate, Timothy Plambeck and Philipp Simmons. He has been assistant conductor and pianist of the Capella Francesa de Barcelona until 2017, after founding the Aula Alumni Choir in 2015.
piano | Throughout his piano studies he has received classes by Carles Marquès, Maria Jesús Crespo, Jordi Camell, Adolf Pla, Daniel Espasa, Juan de la Rubia i Timothy Plambeck, among others. He has performed at the Conservatories of Barcelona, Badalona and Igualada, Musical Association of Master Conductors, Pau Casals Museum, Music Museum, L'Auditori, National Library of Catalonia, Royal Colleges of Tortosa, Miravet Palace, Barcelona Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe and the Architects' Association of Catalonia (COAC), as well as in Chicago, France, Canterbury, London and Lithuania, among others.
choir | He starts his choral training with the age of 7 at Aula's School Choir with Cecilia Velázquez and he has later sung in Choirs such as the Capella Francesa de Barcelona, Lake Forest Academy Choir, the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona's and ESMUC's Choir, Camerata Impromptu, Càrmina Choir, etc.
composition | He is the author of works such as "The calm of a brave sea", “Vital breath”, “Whispering sighs”, “Bridal harmonies”, “Distant evocation”, “Resonant lines and directions”, “Time-space impression" for piano, and "Sound textures" for voice, clarinet, horn and piano, as well as arrangements for choir and piano.
research | He combines his musical activity with his professional exercise of Architecture and with an intense research activity around "musitecture" as a symbiosis between Music & Architecture, exposed in International Congresses and events in which he regularly participates (Kaunas, 2014; London, 2016; Barcelona, 2016, 2019). Springer has published "Musitecture: Musical Space, Spatial Music. Sonorous thresholds in time-space intersections” in Sounds, Societies, Significations, ISBN 978-3-319-47059-7 (2017), exposed at the 1st International Congress of Numanities (Kaunas University of Technology, Kaunas, 2014). Esmuc Digital has recently published "L'espacialitat en la música: del temps al so. L'intèrpret com a transeünt d’una promenade espaciotemporal".

Where & When do we rehearse?

We rehearse every Tuesday, from 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm.

History

The idea of creating a Choir composed of Aula Escola Europea's alumni, current & former teachers and parents grows throughout our conductor & alumnus Gerard Guerra López's School Years at Aula, always linked to the School's Choir since its inception. Such idea is finally carried out in 2015 due to the tribute that both the School & Aula Alumni's Association organize in memory of our beloved teacher Carme Roca, closely linked and involved with the School Choir, who unexpectedly left us.
Aula Alumni Choir is born, therefore, in 2015 as an extension of the School's Choral ensembles to promote Music as one of the pillars to articulate different activities and a meeting point between Alumni and the rest of the School Community members.
Throughout these almost 5 years, the Choir has consolidated itself as a stable Choir and has grown inwardly, opening up to incorporate external people and/or with another kind of relationship with the School, apart from its original core of former students (alumni), current & former teachers and parents, turning the initial High-voice into a Mixed Choir.We currently need to grow & incorporate new voices, which is why we call for new singers with or without musical training.

Repertoire & concerts

Popular, modern, classical songs, Christmas songs, etc. We work on a diverse repertoire, including our own arrangements of well-known songs, too. We like to think of repertoires around a guiding thread or main theme, ranging from "Night & Dreams from the Choir", up to "Turning poems & christmas into Music", "Songs from the Earth" or "Roses & other flowers", for example. For now, we usually have between 3 & 5 concerts per year at multiple places, concert halls, churches, etc., alone or with other choirs or Music groups, in special dates as Christmas, Sant Jordi, Primavera Coral, End-of-year, etc.
We have new exciting projects for this year and we absolutely need new voices.
