Teacher - Robert Reyes
Course Description:
Law Enforcement I is an overview of the history, organization, and functions of local, state, and federal law enforcement. Students will understand the role of constitutional law at local, state, and federal levels; the U.S. legal system; criminal law; and law enforcement terminology and the classification and elements of crime.
My name is Robert Reyes and I am 40 years old. I was born in raised in Brownsville Texas and graduated from Simon Rivera High School (Raiders).
I started my law enforcement career when I attended Texas Southmost College Criminal Justice Institute and earned my Basic Peace Officer License. Shortly after graduating, I began working as a jailer at the Cameron County Carrizales Rucker Detention Center as a pod controller, floor runner, and intake officer. Working in the corrections field helped me gain experience on how to deal with multiple scenarios and observe individuals with so many different personalities. In 2012, I was given the opportunity to work as a police officer at the Port of Brownsville Police Department. I began as a patrol officer, and after three years, I was promoted to Police Sergeant where I served for approximately three and a half years. A few years later, the opportunity to become a Criminal Justice teacher at Harlingen South High School presented itself and I gladly took the position. I am proud to say that I was nominated and chosen as the Harlingen South 2023-2024 Teacher of the year!
I am married and have three beautiful children, ages 6 months, 8 and 11. I have 3 dogs (Charlie/Poppy/Harley). My favorite things to do is spend time with my family, volunteer at my church, watch football (Go Cowboys) and drumming. I am really looking forward to this school year and meeting you all. Together we can make this school year one to remember. No fear, All faith. Go Hawks!!!
