• Sharm El-Sheikh Guidebook for Just Financing: defines Just Financing and sets out a framework of 12 core principles to guide stakeholders and enable unlocking of needed financing from public and private capital providers. The initiative reduces the risk and uncertainty associated with climate investments in developing countries, and  identifies key barriers to private investments and proposes solutions to overcome them.

• Reducing the Cost of Sustainable Borrowing initiative: a joint initiative between Egypt's COP27 Presidency and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, with the objective of tackling the deteriorating fiscal health in climate-vulnerable countries that arises from losses linked to climate hazards, disaster recovery and climate transition. The focus will be on Green and Social and Sustainable (GSS) Bonds to fill the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) financial gaps.

• East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) Decarbonization initiative: announced as a leading model to drive further decarbonization of the natural gas resources in the East Mediterranean, but no details found.

• Sharm El Sheikh Methane Reduction Roadmap initiative: presented under Advancing the Global Methane Pledge as a comprehensive guidance for countries to reduce emissions. It emphasised a short-term focus that called for more action through: (a) methane emissions surveys; (b) awareness campaigns; (c) detection and rapid response programs; (d) low capital project implementation. The Global Methane Pledge has grown to 150 nations.

Adaption & Agriculture

• Food and Agriculture for Sustainable Transformation (FAST) initiative: a joint initiative between Egypt's COP27 Presidency and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to reimagine agrifood systems to the benefit of people, climate and nature. FAST will focus on three priorities for action: (a) access to finance; (b) knowledge and capacity; (c) policy support and dialogue.

• Initiative on Climate Action and Nutrition (iCAN): a multistakeholder, multisectoral initiative to encourage collaboration and action on the interactions between health, nutrition and climate change, with a view to reducing health risks such as stunting, wasting and anaemia. The objective is to raise international awareness about malnutrition and urge state and non-state actors to pledge increased investment and support.

• Climate Responses for Sustaining Peace (CRSP) initiative: aiming to address the issues at the confluence of conflict, climate change, natural disasters and environmental degradation and based on the four pillars of (a) strengthening the climate adaptation and peacebuilding nexus; (b) sustaining peace through climate-resilient food systems; (c) advancing durable solutions to the climate-displacement nexus; (c) accelerating climate finance for sustaining peace.

• Decent Life for a Climate Resilient Africa: aiming to enhance the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) and its Paris agreement, and supporting the efforts of the African Countries to implement their nationally determined contribution (NDCs), through integrating climate action into sustainable rural development in Africa

• Sharm-El-Sheikh Adaptation Agenda: providing a list of thirty adaptation outcome targets to be reached by 2030, which will increase the resilience of 4 billion people across five impact systems: food and agriculture, water and nature, coastal and oceans, human settlements, and infrastructure. • African Women’s Climate Adaptive Priorities (AWCAP) initiative: focusing on strengthening women’s participation in environmental governance, and leverage opportunities within the just transition to the green economy and achieving sustainable development. Three priorities to:  (a) promote gender sensitive perspectives within adaptation, mitigation, and responses; (b) in the context of sustainable development, leverage opportunities for women within the just transition to the green economy and green consumption habits and within blue economy; (c) promote educational and behavioural change.

Water

• Action on Water Adaptation or Resilience (AWARe) initiative: a joint initiative between Egypt's COP27 Presidency and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to champion inclusive cooperation to address water related challenges and solutions across climate change adaptation. The three main aims are: (a) decrease water losses worldwide and improve water supply; (b) promote mutually agreed, cooperative water adaptation action; (c) promote cooperation and interlinkages between water and climate action to achieve the objectives of UN Sustainable Development Goal Six on water and sanitation.

Energy

• Africa Just and Affordable Energy Transition (AJAETI) initiative: aims to provide all Africans with access to clean energy, while meeting the energy requirements for Africa’s economic development. It will focus on three objectives: (a) consolidating and facilitating technical and policy support to make just and affordable energy transitions financially viable, securing access to affordable energy by 2027 for at least 300 million Africans; (b) transitioning 300 million out of the 970 million, who do not have access to clean cooking fuels and technologies, towards clean cooking by 2027; (c) transitioning towards green energy by increasing the share of renewable electricity generation by 25 percentage points by 2027 and obtain a power sector based on renewables by 2063.

Biodiversity

• Enhancing Nature-based Solutions for Climate Transformation (ENACT) initiative: with priorities to (a) enhance protection and resilience of at least 1 billion vulnerable people (including at least 500 million women and girls); (b) secure up to 2.4 billion hectares of healthy natural ecosystems, through protection of 45 million ha, sustainable management of 2 billion ha, and restoration of 350 million ha; (c) significantly increase global mitigation efforts through protecting, conserving and restoring carbon-rich terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems.

• Global Waste 50 by 2050 initiative: seeking to treat and  recycle at least 50% of the solid waste produced in Africa by 2050. It will leverage voluntary engagements from over 180 countries at the international level to achieve this target.

• Friends of Greening National Investment Plans in Africa and Developing Countries initiative: Led by Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the initiative aims to provide climate solutions through shaping the process of planning and design of economic policies so that they (a) takes into account the impact of climate change, (b) quantify the efforts made in mitigation and adaptation, and (c) identify the gaps of the support needed.
