As soon as placements are confirmed with the county, teacher candidates are instructed to reach out to cooperating teachers to schedule a meeting. During this meeting candidates are required to create a schedule with you and outline responsibilities throughout the placement. Candidates are expected to outline the progression of taking on responsibilities throughout the placement.

All teacher candidates are required to create lesson plans. Candidates have access to a universal lesson planning template if needed. Otherwise, candidates should use the lesson plan format that is required for the cooperating teacher.

Student teacher candidates must be in the field from the contracted time teachers report and may leave when teachers are contracted to leave, daily for 14 weeks.
Year Long Residency I Candidates must log a minimum of 250 field hours, 18 hours per week, for 14 weeks.
Year Long Residency II Candidates must report to the field from the contracted time teachers report and may leave when teachers are contracted to leave, daily for 14 weeks. Candidates must also log a minimum of 500 hours.
All absences must be documented. Students must complete the absence form (found on Brightspace), obtain the cooperating teacher signature, and submit to the Field Placement Coordinator (hbaker@shepherd.edu).
