This is a very simple App to use for your meditation work.
We recommend you listen to Cool Meditation on good quality headphones. The lower frequencies are not well represented on "earbud" style headphones. Full headphones also exclude sounds in your environment which might distract from your meditative experience.
As much as possible in the building of the app care was taken to avoid the use of a particular language to widen the appeal of this app.
Hopefully this guide just supplements the symbols in the app.
In the app the frequency is followed by "Hz" This is short for cycles per second. Sound is very often described this way. If you want more details to the principles of sound here is a link to wikipedia's page on it.

Binaurals have been used as a meditation aid for many years. Binaurals are only an aid to meditation and practice is still needed on a daily basis to obtain a productive state of meditation. The theory behind binaurals is that a person's brain waves will become synchronous to the sound heard.
So to obtain sleep brainwaves which are called a "Delta" wave then frequencies between 1 cycle a second and 4 cycles a second should be listened to. The problem is human hearing doesn't go that low.
Binaurals solve the problem by presenting one frequency to the left ear and a slightly different frequency to the right. So if 200 cycles a second are presented to the left and 204 cycles are presented to the right then the brain perceives the difference between the two frequencies to be 4 cycles per second.
Below each type of meditation is shown with a graphic to give you a sense of what the meditation is for. This is not definitive and when you meditate your results may vary. For example if you are over tired and put on a beta wave you might still fall asleep. If you do you probably needed to sleep anyway.
The best way I have found is to lose expectations of what your meditation "should be" and let the frequencies nudge you in a particular direction. Where you go from there is up to you.
So in the range of 1 to 4 cycles difference the resulting frequencies produce a deep relaxation and sleep. This is called a Delta Wave.
In the range of 4 to 8 cycles per second the resulting frequencies are useful to meditate. This is called a Theta Wave.
In the range of 8 to 13 cycles per second the resulting frequencies are used for a sense of well being and confidence. This is called an Alpha Wave.
In the range of 14 to 30 cycles a second the resulting frequencies are used for creativity and problem solving. This is called a Beta Wave.
The layout of the App avoids the use of language.
On the top bar is the left ear frequency using the Hz unit which is cycles per second. In the middle is the difference and on the right is the frequency presented to the right ear.
On the left just below the frequency is the App logo which will present you with a looping visualizer. You can dismiss the visualizer with the X of the standard video playback controls.
On the right is the information symbol which will show you the links to our privacy policy as well as Google's privacy policy.
Below that you will see the graphical representation of the purpose of that meditation.
Below that image is a slider that will allow you to set the type of meditation. I've described above the general purpose of each meditation type.
Next is the play/pause toggle that will allow you to start or stop the wave.
Below and to the left under the wave symbol is a slider in red that will allow you to set the base frequency. This is mostly based on your comfort. This may range anywhere from 200 cycles per second to 800 cycles per second. The lower the number the lower the sound will be. When going above the 800 cycles per second mark binaurals seem to lose their effectiveness.
On the right under the rain cloud is a slider which will add in rain effect. When the slider is all the way to the left there is no rain effect. As you move it to the right the rain increases until when the slider is all the way to the right there is only rain effect and no binaural wave.
At the very bottom in purple is the overall volume of the app. This is different than the master volume of the phone.
The sound of our app is "mixable" with the sound of other apps. So you can listen to your favorite music while our app plays. This is up to you but remember the music you select also may affect your meditative experience. For example putting on gentle piano music might help you meditate where as putting on heavy metal thrash music might not.....totally up to you.
