Cooking Capable started after then 15 year old Ivy Prince attended a 4-H Cooking Summit in Columbia, SC. She always had a passion for service, especially to the special needs community and was already serving in a Shine (Special Needs) Ministry at church. During a late night brainstorming session, she thought we should do this cooking camp with our Shine participants. The idea for Cooking Capable was born. She then applied for a National 4-H Lead to Change grant for $2,000. She was able to secure the funding through that for the first set of pilot workshops. She then applied for the NSHSS Be More Grant. This was a "Shark Tank" style competition in Atlanta, GA with 14 other finalists from around the country. She presented to a panel of judges and an audience of around 1,000 people who also got to ask questions. Surprising herself, she won the $10,000 grant.
Since then, Ivy has been able to put on multiple workshops for different age groups, present at 2 international conferences in Washington, DC and has received several local and state community service awards for her work with Cooking Capable. Check out the video below of her 1st ever podcast sharing in her own words about the work of Cooking Capable.
