Join us for a virtual bake-a-thon June 19th through June 21st as part of the #bakersagainstracism movement. We hope to be together even if distant, sharing this moment in our kitchens.
We've chosen June 19th - June 21st because it brings together two important commemorative dates in the US and Canada. June 19th is known as Juneteenth, the oldest national commemoration of the end of slavery. It was organized by and for Black people in the USA. June 21st is National Indigenous People's Day in Canada. We will bake in the spirit of renewal, mutual aid, meditation, healing and community that bring so many of us to the kitchen. Join us as we engage with our memories and make some new ones during this tumultuous moment! Get grounded, coat your anxiety in sugar, throw some dough around. Re-enact all of those community kitchen, church basement, fish fry, bake sale moments that have traditionally brought us together to nourish and support each other!
We'd like to be baking together virtually throughout this time and we think we can do this by having people sign up to bake here.
We also ask that you request donations from friends and family or raise a donation yourself to contribute to an organization dedicated to racial justice in the US and/or an organization committed to indigenous people's rights and wellbeing in Canada. A list of US organizations, what they do and information on how to donate can be found here. Canadian lists can be found here and here. We ask that you list your beneficiary organization(s) when you sign up to bake.

When you sign up, share your general global location, what you are baking and which organization you will support. If you are going to share your food, let us know with whom.

We have all decided to bake for friends, who are giving donations in exchange for baked awesomeness. Together, it seems that we've raised about $1,000 USD for a variety of organizations.
Stacey and Cass are co-hosting Zoom gatherings mid-day EST Friday and Saturday. Margo is hosting a gathering Friday night at 9pm EST.
