We invite abstract submissions for both oral presentations (20-minute talk plus additional 10 minutes for questions and discussion) and poster presentations . We welcome abstracts from a broad field of linguistic subfields (e.g., language acquisition, morphology, phonetics/phonology, semantics/pragmatics, syntax) and methodologies (e.g., computational, experimental, fieldwork, theoretical).
This year there will be a special session with a theme “Features and their interactions”. This special session is dedicated to exploring the role of features and their diverse interactions within the framework of grammar. Linguistic features ranging from syntactic and morphological to phonological and semantic are fundamental elements that govern the structure and function of languages. These features include, but are not limited to, tense, aspect, number, gender, case, tone, stress, and meaning distinctions. A key focus of this session is on how these features interact to form grammatical patterns, including phenomena such as feature intervention effects situations where certain features disrupt or block expected linguistic processes. Additionally, we are interested in investigating syncretism, where distinct features converge in specific linguistic environments. Understanding these effects can shed light on the complexities of feature hierarchies, agreement systems, and the constraints that govern feature operations.
This session also aims to explore the broader implications of feature interactions across various linguistic domains, including phonology and semantics. How do phonological features interact with morphological and syntactic structures? How do semantic features shape and constrain the syntactic organization? We invite contributions that offer new insights into the interaction of features across different linguistic levels, whether through theoretical frameworks, empirical studies, cross-linguistic comparisons, or case studies of featural interaction.
