What happens when videostreaming good guys, Russian bad guys, witches and wizards from the 1690's, and aliens with wings (who are DEFINITELY not faeries) all try to gain the same ingrediant for their own purposes?  In this epic adventure, who will get that crystal?  Over the course of this semester students collaborated on the development and editing of the script, explored their story through the use of tableau and three lined scenes, and honed their acting toolbox skills.  I am so proud of each and every one of you!  Take that stage and go get that crystal.  Y'all are rockstars!

Crash Island focuses on a group of children who crash land on an unknown island. They discover that this island is cursed, and the longer that they stay on island, the less chance they have of survival. This eclectic group of characters have to figure out a way to survive on this island. Some venture into the unknown elements of the island, and other stay on the shore waiting for help to arrive. Will the curse of the island cause them to meet their demise, or will they kill each other before the island can?

This semester, we focused on Commedia Dell'arte and polishing improvisational skills. Commedia Dell'arte is a type of theatre developed during the Italian Renaissance that primarily relies on stock characters to make the story effective. Therefore, this semester was particularly character focused; using improv games to enhance overall characterization skills to make the performance stronger overall. This style of comedy blended seamlessly with the students' vision: plane crash, curses, and chaos.

These young people have been working tirelessly to perfect their piece. This show definitely showcases their growth as performers, and I have enjoyed every second I've had teaching them! Break all the legs, guys. I am incredibly proud of you!

ACT II: Musical Theatre Conservatory

7:30 PM

Musical Theatre Conservatory
Level 1 & 2

Directors: Amanda Slade & Kyleigh Perales

Director's Note:

The Show Must Go On takes place on the Broadway stage in New York City. It is about the cast and crew of a broadway musical as they struggle to deal with the drama created backstage. If it wasn’t already stressful enough, someone in the theater has begun kidnapping and taking out several members of the cast and crew. But the show must go on so they band together to find the culprit while simultaneously putting on their musical and hope to succeed before the show is over. You see the cast and crew go through the social separation due to gossip and drama as they start to come closer together and treat everyone like family.

Throughout the course of the class, the students have been learning playwriting structure, singing techniques, dancing techniques, characterization, and theatre terminology. They have created their own characters and have spent the rehearsal process developing these characters on and off stage, as well as experiencing directing opportunities.

Having to learn musical theatre techniques in a short amount of time is not an easy task. But these kids have exceeded our expectations and have worked incredibly hard to showcase their piece. We wish them all of the luck as they show you The Show Must Go On!

The key is to address the fear, and deny the power”.Maybe it’s time to give the younger minds a little bit of that power. After all, Who better to teach us than the ones who are so eager to learn. Ever want to commit a murder? This show follows the story of Walter, the playwright's alter ego, who narrates the show under the premise that he will tell the audience how he commits a murder. He introduces the audience to tyrannical millionaire Edward Worthington's relatives, business associates, and household staff, most of whom have reason to wish the man dead. Gathered on a stormy evening at Worthington Manor to celebrate Edward's fiftieth birthday, each person has a motive that is established when the lights go out and the mysterious murder occurs.

What's YETi?

Y.E.T.i (Youth Ensemble Theatre Inc.) is a theatre production ensemble created to give high school students the opportunity to take part in the full frontier of theatre. Founded in January of 2015, Y.E.T.i members manage everything from production and marketing, to fundraising and outreach. With the assistance of the resident Childsplay staff, these teens organize and execute all of the tasks of a professional theatre.

Each season (twice a year), ensemble members will work together select a production and then spend the semester creating the production from the ground up. From designing, to marketing, and from performing to casting, this production will truly be in the hands of the teen ensemble.
