Experiment with the texture, author Magdalena Stoyanova
Imprinted Japanese paper support, shell-lacquered; watercolor with gum arabic; liquid enamels, ink.
Replica of Japanese print of the fifteenth century. The aim of this experiment is to make the background more spacious and semi-transparent, imitating opaque glass, thus increasing the brilliance of the design in the foreground without using perspective racourses.
Copy of
PAUL KLEE, "AD MARGINEM", (1930, watercolor on pressed cardboard)
Magdalena Stoyanova, 1992, 70 x 100 cm (unframed)
cardboard, dry pastels and water-resistant coloured inks.
Copy of EGON SCHIELE "THE FOUR TREES", oil on canvas
Magdalena Stoyanova, 1996, tempera on pressed cardboard, 60 x 80 cm
The copy of the original is made in egg tempera (with the addition of liquid crystals of natural origin) to avoid the loss of chromatic shades following the reflections and darkening typical for oil painting. The difference between illuminated and shaded parts is rendered through distinct use of tempera: yolk for the parts seen backlight, egglight – for the shades of the sky.
