This talk discusses some of the key challenges faced in the field of causality as well as the state of the art, with an emphasis on the causal identification problem. This problem is concerned with determining whether a specific causal effect (such as effects of a treatment on an outcome) can be uniquely calculated and expressed in terms of available data (be it observable or interventional).
Professor Negar Kiyavash holds the chair of Business Analytics in the College of Management of Technology at EPFL. Prior to joining EPFL, she was on faculty of Georgia Institute of Technology and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research focuses on data analysis with focus on causal inference in complex networks.
