Remembering and honoring the career accomplishments of Michael Conroy
Michael Conroy, age 72, passed away following a brief illness on June 19, 2025. The suddenness and rapid onset of his health decline at his young age caught everyone by surprise, and few had opportunity to bid him goodbye. This website attempts to preserve the legacy of his professional career, expressed in a documentation of his works, published tributes, and proceedings of a symposium held in his honor.
Professional Bio: Michael James Conroy was born July 5, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan. He received bachelor's and master's degrees in Wildlife Biology at Michigan State University in 1974 and 1976, respectively, and he received his PhD in forest biometrics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1979. He worked at Patuxent Wildlife Research Center (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) from 1979 to 1986, first as a Statistician then as a Wildlife Biologist. In 1986, he became Assistant Unit Leader of the Georgia Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at the University of Georgia in Athens. He retired from federal service in 2009, and he became a Senior Research Scientist at the University of Georgia. He retired from the University in 2019 as a Senior Lecturer. He died June 19, 2025 in Athens, Georgia, following a brief illness. Full obituary
