The South African Marine Science Symposium (SAMSS) was held in Durban from 20 - 24 June 2022. Our CPUT Microplastics lab presented 3 orals and 3 posters on current research being done. Not present in the photo to the left are Rushdi Ariefdien and Whitney Samuels (masters students).

Dr Sparks attended the Second International Conference of the African Marine Waste Network hosted by the Sustainable Seas Trust in Ggeberha in May 2022. At this event was a book launch initiated by GridArendal. Dr Sparks co-authored a chapter of the book entitled The African Marine Litter Outlook, that is set to be published in October 2022
