This fall, I am teaching two sections of Precalculus (Math 1113) as the instructor of record. In the past, I have also taught Calculus 1 (Math 2250).
Math 1113: Precalculus (UGA)
Semesters: Fall 2024, Fall 2026 (two sections)
Math 2250: Calculus 1 (UGA)
I am interested in making topology and geometry accessible to a wider audience, including undergraduate students and even the general public. Below you can find my past experiences mentoring in the Directed Reading Program (DRP) at UGA, as well as some references that I have had success with. For all of these projects (except Spring 2025), the undergraduate student had no background in topology.
Spring 2025: Eilenberg-MacLane Spaces
Fall 2025: Surfaces in Topology, Geometry, and Complex Analysis
Spring 2026: The Shape of the Universe
Accessible Resources I have used
The Knot Book by Colin Adams
The Shape of Space by Jeffrey Weeks
Mostly Surfaces by Richard Evan Schwartz
(Not recommended for general public, but perfect for undergrads with a background in pure math)
