Broadband

Broadband is a common term for a fast, capable internet connection, but it actually has a specific definition from the Federal Communications Commission. As of 2017, the FCC defines broadband as an internet connection providing 25 megabits per second (Mbps) download and 3 Mbps upload speed. The FCC is able to change these figures, and will likely do so over time as technologies change. The State of New Hampshire also has a list of broadband-related definitions that are used in relevant laws.

In spring 2018 the Westmoreland Broadband Advisory Committee (WBAC) conducted a survey of town homes and businesses. Results of that survey indicated only 1 in 10 Westmoreland addresses are served with internet speeds that meet the 25/3 Mbps threshold.
