EdRack Crop 1 was harvested on Day 39 of growth and we donated approximatedly 10.25 lbs of butter lettuce to the CSU Lift Up Vikes! Food Pantry.
We harvested early due to close placement of plants in EdRack system leading to overcrowding of each plant, inhibiting further healthy growth.
More space between plants would allow larger heads of lettuce to be produced by end of growth cycle.
After visiting CropKing, we observed the growth cycle of butter lettuce when more space was allowed between each plant. For our system, we are limited in growth size due to system design.
CropKing Greenhouse Visit
For this first crop, we added nutrients per the EdRack Quick Start Guide. We did not make adjustments to pH or Conductivity.
The pH and conductivity probes have been determined to be inaccurate. Our data collected reflects the correct trends, but not accuracy.
For the next crop we will observe how keeping those values in the ideal range (5.50-7.50) effect plant health and growth, using more accurate instrumentation.
