Connect to Collect Web App is a licensed service for collecting social digital photography in museums and archives. The web app was developed within the Nordic project Collecting Social Photo (2017 – 2020) as a tool for museums and archives to collect amateur photography from communities and individuals.
Connect to Collect allows museums and archives to set up their own unique instance of the web app, and easily create thematic collections. Each collection is designed with a standard set of questions, metadata added by the user. Questions about the specific theme of the collection can be added by the archives/museums. A collection page is created through the administration interface.
Users contributing images need to create a user account. The users can decide for themselves what is to be shown publicly and what is not. Through the administration interface, the person responsible for the collection can, if necessary, unpublish images, and end the entire collection.
A collection can also be targeted at selected groups and shown only to those who participate. The service is multilingual and new translations can be added if necessary
Each collection page displays all photos that users have chosen to be publicly displayed. The collection can be turned into a slideshow for display on a touch screen or projected in a gallery.
The system is designed according to the Spectrum 5 standard, and guarantees safe handling of personal data. Collected material can be manually exported in csv format to the museum/archive’s own collection system.
