Trezor Bridge | Getting Started, Secure Device & Setup
Trezor Bridge was developed to help establish communication between a Trezor hardware wallet, Trezor Suite, and compatible web browsers. It operated as a background service that allowed supported browser-based applications to communicate with the connected Trezor device. However, Trezor has now deprecated the standalone Trezor Bridge and recommends users move to the current connection technology incorporated into Trezor Suite. {"fallbackMarkdown":"(Trezor)","reference":{"matched_text":"","prefix":null,"start_idx":896,"end_idx":915,"safe_urls":["https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/deprecation-and-removal-of-standalone-trezor-bridge","https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/deprecation-and-removal-of-standalone-trezor-bridge?utm_source=chatgpt.com"],"refs":[],"alt":"(Trezor)","prompt_text":null,"type":"grouped_webpages","error":null,"fallback_items":null,"items":[{"title":"Deprecation and removal of standalone Trezor Bridge | Trezor","url":"https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/deprecation-and-removal-of-standalone-trezor-bridge?utm_source=chatgpt.com","attribution":"Trezor","pub_date":null,"snippet":"","attribution_segments":null,"supporting_websites":[],"refs":[{"turn_index":0,"ref_type":"search","ref_index":4}],"hue":null,"attributions":null}],"status":"done","style":null},"showLoginRequiredCard":false}
For anyone setting up a Trezor device today, the recommended starting point is the official Trezor Suite application. It provides the tools needed to connect, initialize, and manage a compatible hardware wallet.
Start With Trezor Suite
The simplest way to get started is to visit the official Trezor Suite setup page. Trezor recommends downloading the desktop application for the best experience. Trezor Suite is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, while supported users can also access the web application through compatible browsers. {"fallbackMarkdown":"(Trezor)","reference":{"matched_text":"","prefix":null,"start_idx":1494,"end_idx":1526,"safe_urls":["https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/download-verify-trezor-suite","https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/download-verify-trezor-suite?utm_source=chatgpt.com","https://trezor.io/start","https://trezor.io/start?utm_source=chatgpt.com"],"refs":[],"alt":"(Trezor)","prompt_text":null,"type":"grouped_webpages","error":null,"fallback_items":null,"items":[{"title":"Trezor Suite App (Official) | Congrats on your new Trezor | Trezor","url":"https://trezor.io/start?utm_source=chatgpt.com","attribution":"Trezor","pub_date":null,"snippet":"","attribution_segments":null,"supporting_websites":[{"title":"Download & verify Trezor Suite | Trezor","url":"https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/download-verify-trezor-suite?utm_source=chatgpt.com","pub_date":null,"snippet":"","attribution":"Trezor"}],"refs":[{"turn_index":0,"ref_type":"search","ref_index":3},{"turn_index":0,"ref_type":"search","ref_index":6}],"hue":null,"attributions":null}],"status":"done","style":null},"showLoginRequiredCard":false}
Always download Trezor software from an official Trezor source. Phishing websites can imitate cryptocurrency wallet brands and may attempt to collect sensitive information.
Connect Your Secure Device
After installing Trezor Suite, connect your hardware wallet using the appropriate cable or supported connection method. The application will guide you through the connection and setup process.
For browser-based Trezor Suite, supported Chromium-based browsers can communicate with a device using WebUSB. Trezor notes that Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Opera are supported, while Firefox and Safari do not support the required WebUSB functionality for this web-app connection. {"fallbackMarkdown":"(Trezor)","reference":{"matched_text":"","prefix":null,"start_idx":2204,"end_idx":2237,"safe_urls":["https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/os-requirements-for-trezor","https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/os-requirements-for-trezor?utm_source=chatgpt.com","https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/use-trezor-suite-in-your-browser-web-app","https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/use-trezor-suite-in-your-browser-web-app?utm_source=chatgpt.com"],"refs":[],"alt":"(Trezor)","prompt_text":null,"type":"grouped_webpages","error":null,"fallback_items":null,"items":[{"title":"Use Trezor Suite in your browser (web app) | Trezor","url":"https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/use-trezor-suite-in-your-browser-web-app?utm_source=chatgpt.com","attribution":"Trezor","pub_date":null,"snippet":"","attribution_segments":null,"supporting_websites":[{"title":"Operating system requirements & connectivity for Trezor Suite App | Trezor","url":"https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/os-requirements-for-trezor?utm_source=chatgpt.com","pub_date":null,"snippet":"","attribution":"Trezor"}],"refs":[{"turn_index":0,"ref_type":"search","ref_index":0},{"turn_index":0,"ref_type":"search","ref_index":14}],"hue":null,"attributions":null}],"status":"done","style":null},"showLoginRequiredCard":false}
If your device is not detected, first check that you are using a suitable data-transfer cable rather than a charge-only cable. Trezor's troubleshooting guidance identifies the cable as one of the most common causes of connectivity problems. {"fallbackMarkdown":"(Trezor)","reference":{"matched_text":"","prefix":null,"start_idx":2480,"end_idx":2500,"safe_urls":["https://trezor.io/support/troubleshooting/device-issues/trezor-suite-doesn-t-see-my-device","https://trezor.io/support/troubleshooting/device-issues/trezor-suite-doesn-t-see-my-device?utm_source=chatgpt.com"],"refs":[],"alt":"(Trezor)","prompt_text":null,"type":"grouped_webpages","error":null,"fallback_items":null,"items":[{"title":"Trezor Suite doesn’t see my device | Trezor","url":"https://trezor.io/support/troubleshooting/device-issues/trezor-suite-doesn-t-see-my-device?utm_source=chatgpt.com","attribution":"Trezor","pub_date":null,"snippet":"","attribution_segments":null,"supporting_websites":[],"refs":[{"turn_index":0,"ref_type":"search","ref_index":12}],"hue":null,"attributions":null}],"status":"done","style":null},"showLoginRequiredCard":false}
Complete the Device Security Check
Once Trezor Suite recognizes your hardware wallet, follow the on-screen security and authenticity checks. These checks are designed to help verify the device before you proceed with wallet initialization.
If the device, packaging, or security information appears unusual, do not continue blindly. Stop the setup and consult official Trezor support documentation before using the wallet. Trezor's onboarding process specifically includes device-security checks as part of initial setup. {"fallbackMarkdown":"(docs.trezor.io)","reference":{"matched_text":"","prefix":null,"start_idx":3028,"end_idx":3047,"safe_urls":["https://docs.trezor.io/trezor-suite/features/onboarding/onboarding.html","https://docs.trezor.io/trezor-suite/features/onboarding/onboarding.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com"],"refs":[],"alt":"(docs.trezor.io)","prompt_text":null,"type":"grouped_webpages","error":null,"fallback_items":null,"items":[{"title":"onboarding - Trezor Suite","url":"https://docs.trezor.io/trezor-suite/features/onboarding/onboarding.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com","attribution":"docs.trezor.io","pub_date":null,"snippet":"","attribution_segments":null,"supporting_websites":[],"refs":[{"turn_index":0,"ref_type":"search","ref_index":5}],"hue":null,"attributions":null}],"status":"done","style":null},"showLoginRequiredCard":false}
Install Firmware Safely
A new Trezor device may arrive without firmware installed. Trezor Suite guides you through installing the appropriate official firmware during initialization. Depending on the model, you may be offered different firmware choices.
Keep the device connected until the firmware installation has finished. Disconnecting during the process can cause problems with the device. {"fallbackMarkdown":"(Trezor)","reference":{"matched_text":"","prefix":null,"start_idx":3449,"end_idx":3482,"safe_urls":["https://trezor.io/documents/suite_terms_of_use.pdf","https://trezor.io/documents/suite_terms_of_use.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com","https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-devices/trezor-safe-5/get-started-with-the-trezor-safe-5","https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-devices/trezor-safe-5/get-started-with-the-trezor-safe-5?utm_source=chatgpt.com"],"refs":[],"alt":"(Trezor)","prompt_text":null,"type":"grouped_webpages","error":null,"fallback_items":null,"items":[{"title":"Get started with the Trezor Safe 5 | Trezor Knowledge Base | Trezor","url":"https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-devices/trezor-safe-5/get-started-with-the-trezor-safe-5?utm_source=chatgpt.com","attribution":"Trezor","pub_date":null,"snippet":"","attribution_segments":null,"supporting_websites":[{"title":"01_Suite Terms and Conditions","url":"https://trezor.io/documents/suite_terms_of_use.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com","pub_date":null,"snippet":"","attribution":"Trezor"}],"refs":[{"turn_index":0,"ref_type":"search","ref_index":7},{"turn_index":0,"ref_type":"search","ref_index":20}],"hue":null,"attributions":null}],"status":"done","style":null},"showLoginRequiredCard":false}
Create and Protect Your Wallet Backup
After firmware installation, continue through the wallet setup process. If you create a new wallet, Trezor will guide you through generating and recording your wallet backup.
Write the backup information exactly as instructed and store it securely offline. Never share your backup words with another person and never enter them into an unknown website, form, message, or support request.
Your wallet backup is highly sensitive: anyone who obtains it may potentially recover the associated wallet.
Trezor Bridge and Modern Connectivity
If you encounter references to Trezor Bridge in older tutorials, remember that standalone Bridge is no longer the recommended solution. Trezor states that standalone Bridge has been deprecated and may interfere with future releases. Current Trezor Suite installations use the newer connection approach. {"fallbackMarkdown":"(Trezor)","reference":{"matched_text":"","prefix":null,"start_idx":4375,"end_idx":4394,"safe_urls":["https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/deprecation-and-removal-of-standalone-trezor-bridge","https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/deprecation-and-removal-of-standalone-trezor-bridge?utm_source=chatgpt.com"],"refs":[],"alt":"(Trezor)","prompt_text":null,"type":"grouped_webpages","error":null,"fallback_items":null,"items":[{"title":"Deprecation and removal of standalone Trezor Bridge | Trezor","url":"https://trezor.io/guides/trezor-suite/deprecation-and-removal-of-standalone-trezor-bridge?utm_source=chatgpt.com","attribution":"Trezor","pub_date":null,"snippet":"","attribution_segments":null,"supporting_websites":[],"refs":[{"turn_index":0,"ref_type":"search","ref_index":4}],"hue":null,"attributions":null}],"status":"done","style":null},"showLoginRequiredCard":false}
