Rights of the River
Rights of the River
In 2024, we launched the Thriving Avon Charter, a community-created document recognising the rights of the River Avon and the duties of us as river guardians. The charter was signed by 600 people and sought to reimagine our relationship with the river not as one of extraction and exploitation, but one grounded in the principles of Respect and Reciprocity.
In 2026, we worked with We Are Avon to iterate on the charter and advance its adoption by town and city councils across the Avon region. Thus, the Avon Bioregional Charter was born!
In its new form, the charter has been adopted by 11 councils.
