The Conham Bathing campaign ran from spring 2021 to summer 2026. Launched by a group of outdoor swimmers, the campaign sought improved water quality and a recognition of rights for the River Avon.
Founded in 2021, Conham Bathing was a group of outdoor swimmers and Bristol residents working to tackle the river pollution crisis on the Bristol Avon.
The project team monitored water quality for five years at Conham River Park, launched a live sewage data dashboard to inform locals when it was safe to swim, and lobbied the council for improved water quality and a recognition of rights for the Avon.
The campaign has been featured in local, national and even international media–including The Times and BBC Radio 4's Today Programme–and in the award-winning documentary Rave on for the Avon. See our news archive.

The Conham Bathing team has collaborated with other campaigners across the catchment, most notably We Are Avon, who now coordinate water sampling and the Avon Bioregional Charter.
